Reneé Rapp is a savvy performer and singer who made the move from Broadway musicals to mainstream pop success.

She grew up in Huntsville, North Carolina and began performing in her teens. After appearing in the Charlotte-area production of Spring Awakening, she made the move to Broadway and was cast in the role of Regina George in the musical Mean Girls, which she appeared in from 2019 until the show was shut down due to Covid restrictions in 2020. She also appeared in the 2024 film adaptation of the musical. “I told them, ‘I will only take this job if you promise to help me in my music career one day. I want to be a pop star. I do not want to do this forever,’” she told Rolling Stone in 2023. Before Rapp went all in on her pop ambitions, she starrred in three seasons of the Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls.

In 2022, the talented performer made her debut as a singer-songwriter with the EP Everything to Everyone, highlighted by the song “Too Well,” which displayed her talent for mixing vocal firepower with intense emotional honesty. She followed that with her debut album Snow Angel in 2023. Rolling Stone called the album, “a collection of emotional rollercoasters in miniature, with the 23-year-old Rapp’s versatile voice dipping low and soaring high when the mood demands.” The deluxe version of Snow Angel featured the Coco Jones-assisted “Tummy Hurts” remix. In 2024, Rapp continued her pop star success by working with Megan thee Stallion for a song on the Mean Girls film adaptation soundtrack. — Jon Dolan
