Born Isis Gaston on New Year’s Day in 2000, Ice Spice first came onto the scene via her viral music video for the song “Munch.” The track was a pitch-perfect blend of New York drill, already a fast-rising influence in hip-hop, and a more pop-leaning sensibility. As a decidedly Gen Z star, Ice quickly capitalized on the popularity of “Munch,” dropping a spree of songs that proved the staying power of her distinctive take on her hometown’s unique sound — infused with a lush, sensual, and playful sensibility.
In 2023 she dropped her debut EP, “Like ..?,” two collaborations with Nicki Minaj, a remix to Taylor Swift’s “Karma,” as well as the smash PinkPantheress team-up, “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2.” She racked up four Grammy nominations in the process. Ice Spice accomplished all of this before even releasing her proper debut album Y2K, which features the likes of Travis Scott, Gunna, and Central Cee. Ice Spice is the blueprint for a new kind of superstar, adept at capturing your attention and keeping it, even in the age of the Tik Tok For You page.
