Ariana Grande is a powerhouse vocal prodigy who developed into one of the biggest pop artists of the 21st century. She grew up in Florida and began performing at a young age, appearing on Broadway in the 2008 musical 13 as well as the Nickelodeon series Victorious.

Grande’s first three albums – 2013’s Yours Truly, 2014’s My Everything, and 2016’s Dangerous Woman – were EDM and R&B inflected outings that increasingly displayed the singer’s artistic confidence while churning out hits like “Break Free” and “Problem.”

In 2017, she endured one of the worst tragedies in pop music history when a terrorist attack at her concert in Manchester, England left 22 people dead and over a thousand injured. In response, Grande organized the all-star charity concert One Love, which took place in England later that year and featured Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, and others.

2018’s Sweetener and its 2019 follow-up Thank U, Next saw Grande scale up the ambition and emotional intensity in her music, winning her critical raves as well as chart-topping success thanks to standout songs like “Breakup With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” “7 Rings,” and the landmark statement of post-relationship equanimity, “Thank U, Next.” These albums vividly reflected her own personal and romantic experiences, such as her close friendship with the rapper Mac Miller (who died in 2018) and her whirlwind romance with comedian Pete Davidson, who she was briefly engaged to in 2018. In 2020, Grande released Positions, which featured collaborations with Doja Cat, the Weeknd, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Grande has continued acting throughout her career, appearing in films like Men in Black: International, Zoolander 2 and the political satire Don’t Look Up. Her star performance in Wicked was widely acclaimed, winning her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2024, she released Eternal Sunshine, her most critically lauded work since Thank U, Next. She expanded the album with two deluxe editions, including the 2025 update Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead. Rolling Stone placed Grande at 43 on its 2023 list of the 200 Greatest Singers, noting that “Ariana is such an apt and knowledgeable vocalist that she also recognizes the power of restraint,  wielding her gift in both showstopping and simple ways.” —Jon Dolan
