ALASKA –SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 2018: Mycah Evans, 23,has struggled with addictions to methamphetamine and heroine for years. Growing up around substance abuse disorders and methamphetamine usage, Evans started using methamphetmine about 6 years ago, she says. When she became pregnant with her daughter, she stopped, but then started back up a few months after her daughter’s birth and started shooting heroine as well. After OCS took her daughter, her life took a turn for the worst, and she has struggled between attempts at recovery and resignation to this life that now is familiar to her. “I’m ready to get sober. I’m tired of waking up sick, I’m tired of having to do anything to get dope," she says. "I’m not happy with my lifestyle. And without getting clean, I won’t ever get my daughter." Her aunt and uncle, Hetty and James McAnulty, are encouraging her to move back to Anchorage with them to get clean. But while she wants to quit, Evans is finding it difficult to move past the loss of her daughter and leaving the family of other users she’s become close to out in Wasilla. "I think why I use–I think it’s because I have a lot of pain. Literally, I don’t like to talk about my daughter or think about her during the day.
