Warped Tour made its big comeback this weekend, taking over Washington, D.C., as part of its three-city run to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The beloved rock festival, which started back in 1995, had gone on hiatus in 2019, but returned with a star-studded lineup and a promise to go bigger, bolder, and more punk rock than ever.

Things kicked off at RFK Stadium on Saturday, with bands like Mod Sun and Mayday Parade setting the tone with lively performances filled with throwback anthems and new tracks. As the day continued, Sublime and Cartel rocked the stage, leading up to a set from All Time Low and a headlining set from MGK. The energy didn’t let up on Sunday, when We the Kings and The Wonder Years hit the stage. Warped Tour veterans Less Than Jake and Simple Plan added to their legacies as the bands with the most Warped stops ever before the pop-punk princess herself, Avril Lavigne, closed out the vivacious weekend with a stunning festival debut.

The organizers of the event were hoping to preserve the nostalgia of the festival’s previous iterations. At the time of the return announcement, founder Kevin Lyman told Rolling Stone, “People start remembering once something’s gone that it was important, it was fun — and I’m hoping to recapture a lot of that again.”
