Thousands Gather in New York to Protest ICE
Over the weekend, protests erupted in downtown Los Angeles as a result of aggressive ICE raids against immigrants in the city. The situation in L.A. continues to escalate, with President Donald Trump calling in the National Guard and Marines in response to the protestors.
Since then, protests against ICE have started in various U.S. cities from Austin to Chicago. On Tuesday, thousands of New Yorkers flooded downtown Manhattan’s Foley Square to protest the increasingly intense ICE raids on immigrants in the city. The rally featured speeches from members of various immigrant rights organizations and the local government, Palestinian-American activist Linda Sarsour among them. Thousands showed up, with many of them amplifying the voice of those who can’t take the risk right now. “We know what it is to have that feeling of not knowing if your family is ever gonna be around because of these type of things,” one protestor named David told Rolling Stone. “We not only have the privilege, but responsibility to make their voices heard because if they go out, they don’t know what might happen to them.”
